Policy tracker

Issues we are working on

The association tracks the policy questions that decide whether members can produce at full capacity.

Environment

Solid Waste Management Proclamation

The association supports the law's environmental aims and members' compliance with bans on problematic products such as thin carrier bags. It is asking for a realistic transition period and consultation on implementation, given stranded machinery and outstanding bank loans.

In dialogue
Finance

Foreign currency for raw materials

A member survey found most factories running below half capacity for lack of imported inputs. We continue to press for priority allocation of forex to raw-material imports.

Ongoing
Trade

Customs duty on polymer imports

Following association lobbying, customs duties on synthetic thermoplastic and PVC raw-material imports were removed, lowering input costs for members.

Achieved
Banking

Loan restructuring for affected manufacturers

Sector debt to banks and microfinance institutions exceeds ETB 12 billion. We seek restructuring and transition financing for factories affected by product bans.
